treble clef trophy

I went to the Hamilton Music Industry Awards on Saturday with my dad, grandmother, and sister.  It was the most hilarious awards I've ever been to.  The awards' host, Tom Wilson, was brilliantly funny.  So funny that my dad went to his concert after the show just because he was so entertaining.

When my category was announced, I was so nervous.  I have the worst stage fright, and in the small chance that my name would be called, thinking about delivering an acceptance speech made me want to barf.

But of course, my name was called, and I trotted up to the podium and accepted the award.  By the end of my 10 second speech, my voice started to warble and so I decided to stop talking.

I'm just glad my dad made me take a shot of johnny walker red before leaving the house.

herman dune tradesies

Last Wednesday, I had the great privilege of seeing Herman Dune for the second time in one month at the Horseshoe in Toronto.  Their set wasn't as long as last time but it was just as good.

Being the Herman Dune freak that I am, I brought along two copies of a poster I made for their last album, GIANT, to give to them, as a weird fanatical gift.

And in return, not only did they both embrace me with all their french love, David (yaya) gave me their new album.  And needless to say, it's brilliant.

I was going to bring the carving I did of yaya, but then I decided to wait because perhaps they're not quite ready to know how big of a fan I actually am.

Klara Pölzl

"Motherhood Isn't For Everyone"

Klara Pölzl Hitler died at the young age of 47 from breast cancer.
She was a victim of domestic abuse, not at the hand of her maniacal son, Adolf,
but by her shitty husband Alois.

Maybe if she were still around when her son metamorphosed into an appalling 'human being,' she could have reminded him not to slaughter 9 to 11 million other human beings.

Dundasian Polaris Pride

On Monday night, Caribou took home the honours of the $20,000 Polaris Prize jackpot.

I taxed these photos from the polaris site, since i can't find my camera cord to put my photos onto the computer.

Here is Dan Snaith accepting his custom-made poster.
A poster I slaved over.
A poster I bled over.
I think he liked it.

Caribou Wins!

Caribou wins BIG!

My photos will come eventually.
They are way blurrier, way grittier, way shittier.

polaris music prize

after sneaking into the unveiling of the top ten shortlist for the 2008 polaris music prize on july 8th, i learned that hometown hero dan snaith was nominated for the $20 000 award.

though only one of the nominees wins the cash prize, all ten receive custom made posters by an artist of their hometown.

and because caribou and i are both from dundas, ontario, i was selected to make his poster.

and here it is...
(whoa! the colours totally changed when i uploaded it... i don't know why, do you?)

also, thank you to the following people for helping me with this fucking sweet poster:

michelle williams
steve marck

striving for world peas

My lovely, loving, love of a cousin, Jaclyn Lindsey Katz, compiled a vegetarian cookbook last spring and asked me to make its cover.  All proceeds go to a different charity that she originally told me because apparently the Graheem Foundation doesn't want just anybody's money... dicks.

you should read about it here: ____________.
